Pathetic app

The original game may be fun, but this app is sad.

Playable, but would benefit from a version tailored for the iPad

This app was originally developed for the iPhone, and the author deserves kudos for a solid job of translating the IRL game into a fairly intuitive format. If I were just rating the iPhone version, Id give it a 4 because I think it would be challenging to do better with such a small screen. However, Im basing my review on the iPad version (which is just the iPhone version in 2x on the iPad), since Ive only had the experience of playing it on an iPad. Its a shame that the extra screen space isnt being used to its full potential, as it would reduce the clunkiness of repeatedly tabbing through pages. I was constantly forgetting which developments I had already purchased, how much food I had, and the quantity & value of my goods. It would be convenient to have this information available at a glance at the bottom of the iPad screen. Another feature Id like to see added (both iPhone & iPad) is the ability to undo all of the discarded goods for that turn, so that a different choice can be made. In summary, its a good IRL game that was translated into a good iPhone app, but its just OK on the iPad. The play experience would be dramatically improved for the iPad if the app took advantage of the larger screen space available.

Great Game

Ive never played the actual boardgame, but from the reviews and videos Ive watched, this app is a great implementation. Yes, it could have AI or online multiplayer action, but it is what it is-- a fun solo (or pass and play) time-waster. People giving this a one star review are just nuts, quite frankly. It might take a bit if practice, but everything you need to see during play can easily be accessed. Ignore the haters and get rolling.

Great

A very good substitute for the real game.

Lack of online removes a star

If this game would have the words with friends/ascension style multiplayer i would be able to talk all of my friends and family in to purchasing it. They are missing out on a big market by only having pass and play. Everything else about this app is great. Some of the menus are set up weird and the game can feel clunky before youre used to it. Once you get the quirkiness down the spirit of the game is definitely there. The achievements are a nice touch too. Give this game some proper multiplayer support and Ill bump it up to 5 stars!!

Unfinished

Based on the beautiful wooden pieces in the physical version of this game Id expected the same fit and finish. I was disappointed to find odd user interface (why show the "Roll" button when I have already rolled 3 times?), flow (why do I need to return to the overview screen?), and the tutorials white overlay was both annoying and oddly paced (often overlaying something other than what it was talking about). A great game worthy of a great virtual port.

Has Potential, Still Beta Quality

This is a faithful implementation of the Roll Through the Ages dice game. However, it is still of only beta quality. For example, it doesnt remember your settings between runs, so whenever you start it again you have to go into settings and turn off the tutorial. It doesnt support AI multi-player, so if you want to play a multi-player game you have to find some friends or just play against yourself. The basic game mechanics are fairly well implemented, and I can see this being a good game once the above problems are fixed.

Great game but needs wifi multiplayer

This is a great game and kuddos to the developers for making it as good, if not better than the real dice game. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is the inability to play over wifi with other app users (like Words with Friends). I have a whole network of friends that would be all over this app including the $2.99 download if we could play wirelessly. Awesome job with addition of the Late Bronze Age as well!!

Nice start but need AI

Still buggy and seems incomplete. Dominion (unofficial) is way better and free.

Perfect!

Perfectly simulates the actual board game!!!

Poorly done

As a huge fan of the board game, I expected a digital version to lack the same feel, but cmon! This is an iPhone. Why cant we shake to roll? Why does the roll button stay there when you cant roll anymore. Why do I have to turn the tutorial off every time I load the game? And why do I have to keep hitting back to start a new game once the game is over. For 3 bucks, I expect a little more effort... This is a free app or 99 cent at best

I cant believe I paid full price.

Dont believe the hype!! Spelling errors and poor graphics, this game just screams lack of professionalism. I couldnt last through the tutorial. And I usually LOVE dice games!! But seriously - whats with the confusing-as-heck tutorial?

Roll with it

I was never a big fan of the board game , mostly because of lack of opponents. This game is great for kids and adults. The pass and play makes for shorter car rides and waits in general. This copy included a solitaire like version that is like crack . I would give this a huge thumbs up except ..., The tutorial function keeps popping on a random times. Needs access to the game center . The game is completely designed to sell the board game. ( I already own ) Please turn this into a stand alone product as good as the board game, and I would gladly give you 5 stars

Please update graphics!

I love the game, but it looks awful on my iPod 3. Hopefully an update to retina graphics is in the works.

Great game but app needs a few tweaks

The game itself is great and I would give it 5 stars, however, this implementation needs some tweaks. Id also like to see an iPad native version and multiplayer/AI The things Ive noticed that could be improved: 1. I have to turn off the tutorial every time I open the app. 2. When a game is over it requires hitting back several times to get back to the main menu.

OK but needs work

Randomizer is too predictable, game also keeps resetting to tutorial mode.

Great game, but it has bugs

This is a wonderful game, and I do think the developers did a great job with the app. It works well on the iPad, too. But finding certain things can be a little confusing. For instance, I cant seem to find the list of disasters when I need it (e.g. pestilence, famine, and so forth). I would also love some kind of online component like through Game Center. Whether its asynchronous or real time makes less of a difference... Though having both options would be nice. The biggest issue, though, is the tutorial. Every time I open the app, I have to manually turn off the tutorial again. But these are fairly minor issues to me.

I like it!

Please fix! Crashes on iOS 8.0.2!! Could benefit from graphics update, but its fun!

Unplayable in iOS 8

Not sure if this is a new issue as I just bought the game, but the whole app locks up when I try to end my turn. Without being able to finish a turn makes the game unplayable... Which is a shame because I like the board game and was excited to try the iPhone version :(

Locks up on iOS 8

Just bought this app and I can’t even play it and I can’t find a way to get a refund. Same problem that other users reported where it locks up when you tap the “end turn” button. I see this app hasn’t been updated since 2010. So does this mean I just lost the $ I spent on this app?!? Rip off.
